True Blood

I watched a few episodes of True Blood last night. While I liked the premise of the show (substitute vampires for any marginalised group now and you'd have reality), I don't really like the way the show portrays African-American people.

You have Tara, the best friend who can't stop yapping and being such an uppity bitch. She's the feminist who reads Shock Doctrine (in the first episode), has an alcoholic mother and is in love the the guy who treats her like shit.

Her cousin, Lafayette, is a gay queen who is over-sexualised and deals drugs on the side.

Then again, Sookie the main character isn't much better either.

Seriously, does anyone feel irked out at how these two people are so many stereotypes rolled up into one?
